Research has shown that school uniforms increase student safety and decrease inappropriate behaviors.  A required school
uniform also reduces peer pressure.  Patriot Academy requires school uniforms to promote school spirit, a sense of unity and
community, respect for self, and an atmosphere of modesty and "professionalism".

Patriot Academy has chosen simple uniforms that are readily available and can be purchased inexpensively.  We may, in the
future, offer a logo shirt for special occasions and field trips, but for everyday wear embroidered shirts are not required.
Dress Code
As one purpose of the dress code is to promote respect for self, all clothing should be neat, clean, and free from holes
and/or excessive wear.  All clothing should also fit the child reasonably well.  That is, pants and shirts should not be
excessively tight,  excessively baggy, excessively short, or excessively long.  We understand that some children are difficult
to fit--we just ask that clothing be modest and worn with respect.
Below is a brief overview of the Dress Code.  Please see the Parent/Student
Handbook for the code in its entirety.
Shirts
All shirts are to be solid colored polo style shirts with no trim colors.
T-shirts are not allowed, although t-shirts in an approved solid color may be worn under a uniform shirt
so long as the t-shirt
sleeves are not visible.
Turtlenecks in an approved color may also be worn under uniform shirts.
Shirts should be free from contrasting stitching, graphic prints, logos (other than school logo) larger than 1/2 inch, and other
"designer details".

Bottoms
All bottoms may be khaki or navy blue.  No other colors allowed!  This includes any plaid designs.
Bottoms should be solid colored and free from contrasting stitching, graphic prints, logos larger than 1/2 inch, appliques,
excessive pockets and other "designer details". Pants and Shorts should be pleated, chino style (like Dockers).
Shorts may not be shorter than 2 inches above the knee cap or longer than just past the knee.  Ideal length is from just
above to just below the knee.  Cargo style short have been added this year.
Pants should be full length and straight legged.  (No bell bottoms or boot cuts please!)

Belts
A plain, conservative, brown or black belt without details, studs, prints, lettering, or other details is required for all students
in grades 2-6.  If the bottoms have belt loops a belt should be worn.  Some skirts do not have belt loops.  In that case, no
belt should be worn.
Shoes
Shoes must be closed-toe, closed heel and rubber soled.  Soles should be of a conservative thickness.  Shoes must be
appropriately tied/fastened at all times.  No platforms, sandals, or high-heels allowed.
Girls
Girls Skirts & Skorts,  should be just above the knee or longer.  Shorts must be worn under Skirts, at all times!
